The people and birth dates are fictional; the charts are real, cast from those dates, and the eight volumes were produced by exactly the same process a paying customer gets. The ceiling is not ability but the route to promotion: Wen Chang transformed to Ji in the siblings palace, which is precisely “written appraisal against one’s peers”. Volume VI marks the turn year by year: move in 2027, settle in 2029, and 2033 as the high point of a lifetime.
